Services and Treatment Areas
Intergenerational Trauma
If you find yourself worried that you may be repeating the same mistakes as generations before you, therapy can be a way of exploring the experiences of those who came before you so that you can make changes for those who come after you.
Shame
Feelings of shame are often accompanied by a sense that something is wrong with one's self at the deepest level. These feelings are often incapacitating and unbearable.
Families
Sometimes families hit bumps in the road, or challenging circumstances that create dysfunction or conflict and can be difficult to manage within the home. Family therapists help families navigate difficult times to move towards better communication and relationships with one another.
Erotics and Sexuality
The erotic self, and our ability to experience, explore and enjoy our sexuality is intricately linked to our involvement, engagement, and authenticity in daily life. In our society, many of us were not given the tools we need to have fulfilling and engaging sexual experiences.
Adolescents
Adolescence is an incredibly formative period of development. Many adolescents, and their parents, may benefit from increased support and understanding.
LGBTQIA+
Many of our therapists have extensive experience working with people who may be struggling with their sexuality, or who identify as being a part of the queer community.
Child Therapy and Play Therapy
Children often express themselves in ways adults find difficult to understand. Play therapy can be a wonderful tool to help children who may struggle with neurodivergence, processing trauma, or other difficult psychological experiences.
Couples
Our romantic relationships often bring out both the best and the worst in us. Our partners are able to trigger deep emotional wounds in ways other people in our lives often do not. This can lead to dynamics that may be difficult to negotiate alone. A skilled couples therapist can help facilitate healing, communication, exploration and growth towards a stronger and more resilient partnership.
Men
There is still incredible stigma related to men seeking assistance around mental health issues. At The Collaborative, we understand the importance of supporting men's mental health, several of our practitioners specifically work with men on issues from addictions to anxiety, depression, and beyond.
Menopause and Perimenopause
Along with the many physical and biological changes that people experience with menopause, there can also be a whole host of symptoms ranging from anxiety, rage, insomnia, and depression. A therapist or counsellor can help make this transition more tolerable.
Maternal Mental Health
The changes experienced during pregnancy and the postpartum period, as well as the years after childbirth can have a profound impact on the identity, capacity, and mental health of many birthing people. Sometimes you need a little extra support in order to show up for your child(ren) in the ways that you most want to.
Addiction
Dr. Gabor Mate says, "It is impossible to understand addiction without asking what relief the addict finds, or hopes to find, in the drug or the addictive behaviour." Many of our therapists are experienced at working with addiction from a variety different approaches.
Anxiety
Persistent feelings of dread. An inability to settle. Insomnia. Constantly feeling something bad is about to happen. Experiences of anxiety can often be debilitating and overwhelming. A skilled therapist or counsellor can help.
Depression
Feelings of hopelessness, isolation, and a loss of a sense of self can all result in states of depression and a lack of engagement with the world around you. People who experience depression often benefit from a process of understanding what their symptoms of depression are communicating to them.
Grief and Loss
Sometimes experiences of loss have much more profound impacts on our daily lives than we could have ever imagined. Talking through your loss with an attuned, empathetic therapist or counsellor can help make sense not only of what you've lost, but how to move forward as well with out leaving the loved one or thing behind.
Trauma
Experiences of trauma often become frozen in the body and the mind, and are often re-experienced in the present moment as if no time has passed at all. Working with a therapist who understands the ways trauma manifests itself in the body, the mind, and in daily life is essential for moving beyond the experiences that have traumatized us.
