Intergenerational Trauma

If you find yourself worried that you may be repeating the same mistakes as generations before you, therapy can be a way of exploring the experiences of those who came before you so that you can make changes for those who come after you.

Many people seek therapy for fear that they are repeating destructive and harmful patterns from previous generations, and passing them on to the next generation. They may not know exactly what it is they are looking for or hoping to fix, but they have a sense that something along the way has gone wrong, and that they are carrying the burden not just of their own life, but of the generations before them.

Working through intergenerational trauma can be confusing, rewarding, challenging, and ultimately freeing.

Intergenerational trauma may also be intimately tied to immigration trauma, and cultural /geo-political traumas.

Therapy can be an incredibly useful tool in understanding and changing course so that future generations may land upon different shores.
